Arun Kumar Ray, IPS assumed charge as Deputy Chairman, Tea Board w.e.f. 9th July, 2018. Ray is an IPS Officer of 1988 batch, who after completion of Master’s degree in Economics was pursuing a doctoral programme at IIM, Ahmedabad. He was selected as a Probationary Officer in Reserve Bank of India and was working in the RBI before joining IPS. In Police, he served in different capacities in the State of Odisha as SubDivisional Police Officer, Superintendent of Police (SP) and served in various departments such as Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Intelligence and Vigilance (General Administrative Department). On Central deputation, Ray served in the Central Industrial Security Force. On his return from central deputation, he served as Range DIG, Southern Range and Range IG, Central Range. He also headed the Crime Branch of Odisha Police. On his promotion to the rank of Additional Director General of Police, he was appointed as head of the State Armed Police and was subsequently appointed as the Inspector General of Prisons, Odisha. Ray has been awarded with the President’s Police Medal for Meritorious Service in 2004 and President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2015. He has also been awarded with DG’s Disc by DG CISF in 2004 and D.G.P’s Disc by D.G.P., Odisha in 2015. In his current tenure as Deputy Chairman in Tea Board, Ray has taken several initiatives to improve the quality and improved delivery of services to the tea stakeholders. He has introduced web based technology in the tea value chain traceability.
