Erik af Hällström is serving as the Chargé d´ Affaires, Embassy of Finland to India and Bangladesh as of July 2019. He took up his duties as Deputy Head of Mission in New Delhi in august 2018. He joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1996, after serving as a Journalist at Finnish Broadcasting Company (YLE) for six years. He graduated from the Åbo Akademi University in 1989 with a Master’s Degree in Political Sciences. Erik has served in various roles in numerous countries prior to assuming his present.office. Some of them including Director, Unit for UN and General Global Affairs; (Ministry of Foreign Affairs); Counsellor, Defence Policy Department, Ministry of Defence; Team Leader, Pan – African Issues, Department for Africa and the Middle East (MFA); He has also served as Minister Counsellor at the Embassy of Finland in The Hague; Chair of COARM Working Party during the Finnish EU Presidency in 2006; First Secretary andHuman Rights Expert at the Permanent Mission of Finland in Geneva, and Second Secretary at the Finnish Embassy in Brasília. He is married and he has five children. With more than twenty years spent in foreign affairs, Hällström strongly believes in gender equality, a rules-based international order and universal human rights.
